Chances are, you’re probably here because you’re a stay at home mom that needs to make an income from home because you’re living paycheck to paycheck or you want to help financially support your family.
Or maybe you want to become a stay at home mom one day, so you’re curious about how you will supplement your income from home.
Well, in my five-year experience of being a full-time mom, I can tell you with total confidence that there are NO shortages of stay at home mom jobs that can make you up to $1000 a month from home — you’ve just to got to know what to look for!
Not All Jobs Are Worth It
When we were a dual income family, I was terrified about the idea of leaving my job to live off ONE income, unless I knew for SURE I could find some a way to supplement my income. Because it’s not easy finding stay at home mom jobs that you love AND that pays enough.
I’ve tried many, MANY ways to make money on the side from home, so I can tell you what I look for now whenever I’m on the hunt for something new.
Here are the 3 factors that determine if a job is worth it to me:
- The pay – No one expects to work for pennies. But no side job or work-at-home opportunity should ever promise to make you rich either. So if it’s a job that pays enough to cover your groceries, then I’d say that’s a good side job to have for extra money.
- The schedule – When you’re a stay at home mom with small kids or you’re homeschooling, then you can’t expect to work during traditional (9 to 5) work hours. You’ll need a side job that gives you the freedom and flexibility to work whenever you want to (like during naptime or in the evening!).
- The workload – A side job isn’t meant to be a full-time job. If the workload is going to pull you away from your family for long hours at a time, then you’ll have to decide if it’ll work with your family life.
I try my best to find side jobs that hit this sweet spot, but to be honest, those jobs are harder to find.
Either the pay and the schedule is great but the workload is consuming. Or the workload and schedule are great, but it takes a long time to make good money. Or the pay and workload are amazing but the schedule is quite demanding.
Most of the time, it’s easier to hit numbers 1 & 2 (pay and schedule) than it is to hit all 3.
If you find that to be the case for you, then that’s okay! Because if you have more time on your hands than you have money, you can ALWAYS add another side job to your plate!

Can I Really Make $1000 A Month from Home With A Side Job?
I know, I know. When you’re a stay at home mom with no money, hearing that you can make $1000 a month from home (without getting a job outside the home) sounds scammy and feels too good to be true.
But it’s totally possible!
If you’re a numbers person like me, I’m gonna break down to you exactly what it would take to realistically make $1000 a month from home.
First, let’s figure out how much money you need to make each day. So that would be $1000/30 days = $33.33 a day.
Next, let’s find out how many hours a day you’d need to work to earn $34/day (I like to round-up to make things easier): That would be $34/4 hours a day (assuming you’re working part-time hours) = $8.50/hr.
That means if you find a side job that pays $8.50/hr that you can work for 4 hours a day/7 days a week, you will make $1000 a month!
Of course, if you choose to not work weekends, you’d just need to find a higher paying side job — like one that pays you between $10/hr-$12/hr, which is still good!
So now that we’ve got that out the way and you know it’s possible to make an income from home, below, I’ve compiled a list of successful stay at home mom jobs for you to try in your spare time!
There are several side jobs on this list that I’ve tried personally, or have friends that have pursued them and actually make money from home.
Stay at Home Mom Jobs To Try In 2019
1. Start a pet sitting business
Pet parents always need sitters, especially when they need to leave out for a business trip or take a vacation. So if you’re an animal lover, dog whisper, or whatever, this could be a great home-based side business that you can start.
Potential earnings: $10-$25 per hour! You can learn how to start a home-based pet sitting business here.
2. Test Websites
Websites like UserTesting.com will pay you to review apps and websites of popular brands. You get paid $10 per 20-minute test you complete.
It will capture your screen as you speak your thoughts out loud and complete small tasks (like adding and then removing something from your shopping cart). It’s really easy to sign up with UserTesting.
Potential earnings: $80+/month
3. Sell items on eBay
Collectible items, shoes, jewelry, authentic handbags, and electronics sell extremely well on eBay. You can create an account and list your items for free, but eBay will collect a fee on any items that actually sell.
I recommend you start out by selling clothes you or your kids can’t fit anymore in a lot. Or you can buy name-brand clothes or jeans from thrift stores and resell them on Ebay for 2x to 3x the price!
Potential earnings: $100+/month
4. Turn your car into a taxi
You can drive for Uber or Lyft in your spare time and make a lot of money on Friday nights and weekends.
Another option is to deliver food with Uber Eats or Postmates if chauffeuring people isn’t your thing.
Potential earnings: $30-$100/month
5. Teach English to Kids Online
You can teach English to Chinese kids online with VIPKid. You’ll be able to set your own hours, lesson plans are provided for you, and they are always in need of more tutors!

If you love to write, then blogging is absolutely a good side job to look into! Granted, it can take a while before you start making the kind of money that’ll pay for your groceries.
I blogged as a hobby for three years and was only making pennies. Then I started treating my blog like a side job and began earning $100/month!
And I’m technically still new at this, but this time I’m staying committed and working really hard to see how much more my income can grow. So if you have the patience to put in the sweat equity it takes before you start seeing a return, then blogging might be for you!
Perhaps, one of my FAVORITE things about blogging is it’s so CHEAP to get into. Because these days you can actually start a blog for under $4 a month (which is cheaper than ordering Starbucks any day!).
Potential earnings: up to $100/month (for new bloggers). If you’re interested in blogging to make an income from home, you can check out this step by step tutorial for beginners that’ll show you how to quickly get your blog up and running.
7. Start a home-based daycare
You’re already at home, so why not? I’m sure you know a few working moms that would love to have you watch their little one(s).
Use your experience as a stay-at-home mom to your advantage and earn some income by watching a few additional (1, 2, or 3) kids right at home!
Potential earnings: $600+/month! You can charge $150/week per child depending on where you live! You can use this guide to learn how to start a home-based daycare.
8. Taking photos for families
Anyone can be a photographer! All you need to do is invest in a good camera like this one and start practicing your skills on your kids or pets before you begin taking on clients.
Then you can offer family portrait photography and promote your services on social media. The best part about photography is you can book as many clients as you want, set your own rates, and be your own boss.
I do recommend taking a professional photography class or hop on YouTube to sharpen your skills as your business grows.
Potential earnings: $1600/month! (And that’s only if you shoot two families each weekend, and charge $200 for a one-hour outdoor session and 25-30 fully edited photos accessible online for families of up to 5 people!)
9. Freelance Writing
Another way to capitalize on your love for writing is to start freelancing for other blogs, magazines, and websites! You can literally get paid to write about anything — parenting, food, sports, women’s health, you name it.
Here is a FREE list of 200+ freelance writing topics to choose from if you don’t know what you should write about. Typically, with most writing opportunities you’re paid anywhere from $3 to $300 per post you write.
Obviously, the more content you can crank out the more money you will make and the higher rates you can charge which is why freelance writing is a great side job for moms!
Potential earnings: $2000/month! You can learn all about how to become a paid freelance writer here.
10. Virtual Assisting
Small business owners often need help with managing social media accounts, answering emails, scheduling appointments, and more. So if you’re detailed-oriented and great at meeting deadlines, then becoming a virtual assistant may be perfect for you!
Tasks like data entry might fetch $10-$15 an hour, but if you have a specialized skill or expertise, you could make $100 an hour or more!
You’ll get paid to complete virtual tasks, many times as an independent contractor.
Potential earnings: $2500/month! This amount will depend on the services you provide, hourly rate, and the number of hours you’re willing to work. Here are over 150 services you can offer as a paid virtual assistant to make big bucks from home!
